Are High-Performing Teams Important For You And Your Business?

Do you believe, as I do, that strong relationships make or break team success?

β€œBeyond all the strategies for team performance are the relationships that hold them together. Relationship Intelligence (RQ) is the metric that matters most but often gets addressed least.”

Core Strengths

Like many other managers, you may be focusing mainly on poor behaviours or performance and overlooking the need to understand core reasons why they exist in the first place.

So how do you get to the root cause of perceived negative behaviours?

Let me share the following insights:

πŸ‘‰ I have found there is power in developing our level of awareness and understanding of the reasons why we may see things differently from others.

πŸ‘‰ I have discovered that the reasons driving you and me to use the same strength vary from one person to another.

πŸ‘‰ have experienced how strengths, when misused, can trigger others into conflict.

Let us take a closer look at four strengths that someone may be using in their relationships and communication at work.  Then look at how others may perceive them when these same strengths (meant for good) are misapplied or overused.

πŸ˜€ Strengths – The motives for using them are positive.

  1. Competitive
  2. Helpful
  3. Persevering
  4. Option-Oriented

As managers, are we not looking for individuals with these qualities and strengths when hiring?

Would a new employee with these strengths be a great addition to your team?

I believe most managers would say Yes! (depending on the role, of course)

However, what if I were to tell you that these same (positive) strengths when misapplied or overused, are often perceived by others as negative behaviours.

πŸ˜• Overdone Strengths – How others may see them as negative behaviours?

  1. Aggressive –      (Competitive)
  2. Smothering –    (Helpful)
  3. Stubborn –        (Persevering)
  4. Indecisive –       (Option-Oriented)

You may already be thinking of a current team member, or even a family member or friend, who may be demonstrating these perceived behaviours?

Most people, you and I included, can easily be triggered into internal conflict when we don’t understand the intended strength behind the negative behaviour.  Many relationships are strained and broken because people don’t have the correct understanding or insights into the true motives – β€œWhy”.

As a result, people may take the comments or actions of others as personal attacks (becoming offended) which leads to experience interpersonal conflicts. Possibly creating or adding to a toxic working environment when these interactions and communications are not managed properly.

Our clients are experiencing transformation in their leadership style and relationships through the Relationship Intelligence (RQ) insights, training, and our 1-on-1 coaching sessions.

As a result, they are able to build high-performing teams through more effective coaching techniques and newly developed insights of their own.
